Στην πλουσιώτερη πόλη, την πόλη του φωτός, οι ντόπιοι αποσβολωμένοι ή σε απόγνωση, βλέπουν το τέλος εποχής, - της Νέας εποχής-;

As long as post war Europe’s factories needed cheap immigrant labour, the presence of immigrant communities was tolerated. For over 50 years integration hasn’t been a priority. In today’s post industrial European economy, most Europeans would rather that the immigrant communities simply disappeared along with the factories.

Before this rioting the French were uneasy about Turkey joining the EU. This will ensure the unease will turn into downright hostility.
What I don't understand is why the immigrants when they leave their homelands for a better life they bring with them all the baggage which made their homeland so unacceptable. If they now find France is not to their taste wouldn't it be better for them to leave for a country more to their likeing.

I think it's fantastic! There's nothing like a riot to incite lazy politicians and powers-that-be to get off their privileged behinds and do something for those in need. I say, "Good for THEM!!"

Now, let's riot on the White House.....maybe Bush will resign or, god willing, get impeached. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she???

I am a Chinese immigrant to the U.S. My family and I have been doing very well in this great country. There are many other millions of immigrants in the U.S. are just doing or achieving what my family has done. It is all about your own efforts! Of course, the U.S. and the American people are much more open-minded. The land of America is a fertile land to whoever wants to succeed.

To characterize the rioters as victims is ridiculous. The only victims are the poor cops, firemen and other emergency workers who have to go in and clean up this mess. Oh yes, and the poor people who will have to live in areas blighted for years afterward. Detroit, Newark, and Watts have never recovered from the riots. Still, watching the French politicians wriggle and twist has been grimly amusing.

The minority community must earn the goodwill of the majority community by way of hardwork, honesty and being loyal to the state which has sheltered them. Only then they will be able to prosper. The Chinese and other asian communities have done this.

Charles of Berkley (not surprising), CA, 3 Nov., 2005, 08:30 GMT 08:30 UK. writes, "I think it's awful that people are attacking the protestors here....they just want their rights and a decent country ot ive in.” So, they have to come to France to find a “decent” country? Whats wrong with their “decent” country? I’m told all non western countries are paragons of virtue & tolerance & western countries are roots of all evil. Why did the immigrants move from their perfect countries?

I'd like to hear which laws and which oppressed minorities the poster refers to. I don't see much oppression going around here, in Paris or elsewhere in France.

Please note that Turkey (90%+ of muslims) has passed headscarf ban law many years ago.

The only oppression I can see every day is the fact that you can't take a suburb train late in the evening (say, after 11 pm) without taking a risk of getting beaten up, raped (if you are a woman) and robbed.

we live to fall asleep - manics.

Las Fronteras.

To δανείζομαι απο την Eirineta, αυτούσιο:

In the great city of Paris,
There are well-fed bourgeois,
There are the poor,
Who have an empty stomach:
The former are greedy,
Long live the sound, long live the sound,
The former are greedy,
Long live the sound
Of the explosion!
